Bellator 59 Heavyweight Tournament Finale brings Eric Prindle to face the sleeping giant Thiago Santos.
Both Eric and Thiago have looked very good in both of there previous heavyweight bouts in this Bellator tournament. If I had to guess I’d say Eric wants to keep it standing and Thiago would prefer a fight on the ground. Eric (who I call the gentle giant) seems to have very heavy hands and Thiago (who I call the sleeping giant) loves to utilize his black belt in brazilian jiu jitsu. This fight is going down on November 26, 2011 at Caesars in Atlantic City, NJ.
Eric Prindle stands at 6’5″ is 35 years old and sports an impressive 9-1 record. He lives in Prescott, AZ and trains at Team Death Clutch. Eric made his pro debut in 2004 and started with a bang by knocking out both of his first 2 opponents. Eric then decided he wanted to take a little time off to spend with his wife and kids and he did just that for the next four years.
After the lengthy lay off Prindle decided to make his return to the cage and did so in April of this year at Bellator 40. Here he faced Josh Burns and claimed victory towards the end of the second round via ref stoppage. After this win Eric then entered the Bellator Season 5 Heavyweight Tournament. His first bout was vs. Abe Wagner at Bellator 52 where Prindle would come out on top in the back and forth slugfest to take the win by a unanimous decision. In the semi-final round he faced Ron Sparks where he made short work of the fight as it ended in 40 seconds and propelled Prindle directly to the finals.
Thiago “The Monster” Silva just may be for real ladies and gentlemen. For a guy who has been fighting for Bellator since April he has definatly made his share of noise in the heavyweight division. I first thought it was luck Santos was able to continue landing major fights but I’ve now chalked his “luck” up to fate. Between a guy getting hurt, medical suspension and whatever else it has ultimatly landed “the monster” in the Bellator season 5 Heavyweight championship of the tournament. He has made both of his opponents tapout before he ever appeared to be short on breath.
I think if Prindle can keep the fight standing he stands a very good chance of winning the $100,000. If Thiago can manage to get Prindle on the ground he stands a very good chance of submitting him and claiming the $100,000 prize up for grabs. Whoever ends up on top will get there shot at Cole Konrad and the ultimate prize of being the overall, undisputed heavyweight champion.
