Tomorrow night’s UFC on FUEL TV 3 is sure to be an entertaining night, even though the card isn’t really hosting any major names. The main bout between the “Korean Zombie” & Dustin Poirier is sure to be worth your time; I mean the event is free after all! Both guys are almost even in their records & are both hungry to put up a good show in what is probably their “biggest fight” under the UFC.

Some have named Poirier winner via submission, while others are quick to give the win to Jung with a first round knock out. I’m not quick to make assumptions or call fights if I don’t know the fighters well, but either way- I’m ready to watch this fight tomorrow night! Are you planning on tuning in?

Nick Diaz’s fans showed up in full force on Saturday hoping for a great grappling match between Nick and Braulio Estima. There were even a lot of fans that paid $12.95 to stream the match live on the internet.

Everyone wanted to get a glimpse of the suspended UFC fighter, but everyone’s time was wasted because Nick Diaz never showed at the World Jiu-Jitsu Expo. Nick Diaz lost a lot of fans on Saturday, and disrespected his opponent and St. Jude’s Hospital that was set to benefit from the charity match.

What Nick Diaz needs to learn, is that it is not all about him. This wasn’t a prime-time UFC fight in Las Vegas, but these are the fans that you don’t want to disappoint. These are the die-hard fans that love the sport, and the young kids that dream about being Nick Diaz in the UFC.

We hope that you get your act together Nick Diaz, and we hope that your brother straightens you out. He is the good Diaz, and you are stealing his spotlight and hurting both your name’s in the sport.

DOM Fight Gear was in attendance this weekend at the World Jiu-Jitsu Expo, and we will post our recap of what turned out to still be a great exhibition.

UFC on FOX 3

I think any fan will look at Saturday’s fights and agree that this past weekend delivered. Even the decision having to be made between Koscheck & Hendricks, was great fighting!

We have been growing somewhat accustomed to UFC fights that are good in their own respect, but are not electric.Take Condit vs Diaz, for example; that fight was largely received as a “bad” fight. I wouldn’t particularly say that it was a bad fight, I’ve actually gone back to re-watch it & I think it was highly underrated, but it wasn’t explosive like we (the UFC fans) would have liked it to be!

Thankfully for UFC fans, the other Diaz did not have that problem on Saturday night in New Jersey. Nate went in & took every advantage possible on claiming momentum & snuffing out opportunities for Miller to gain control. It was a smart, relentless, & well planned fight by the younger Stockton brother.

The heavyweights Johnson & Barry went to work when they stepped in the octagon; along with Belcher & Palhares, of the middleweight division showcased on FOX this past weekend. There were explosive punches, hard hitting blows landed at maximum hurting potential, smart & methodical submissions, & just flat out good fighting to be seen by the guys on the main card. I say congrats to the winners, congrats to those who won honors, & congrats to UFC for bringing us a fight card that out performed any hype or anticipation. Maybe the token “third times a charm” really does hold value because UFC on FOX 3 was everything I’ve wanted the past 2 events to be.

UFC has put together a very good card for their event on FOX this Saturday.

UFC on Fox 3 will feature several great fighters, and they are smart enough to start it earlier so it will not compete with Floyd “Money” Mayweather vs Miguel Cotto. There are many crossover fans that will check out both events.

Nate Diaz & Jim Miller are both black belts, in their own respects. Diaz, coming from the Gracie legacy & Miller earned his belt under Jaime Cruz. Miller is most often known for his wrestling, over his BJJ but both are equally impressive; Jim also has a notable standup. I think that most would classify Jim Miller as a reactionary fighter.

In Miller’s last fight against Guillard, you can see his approach very clearly. Jim took Melvin’s hard, standing abuse & then when he saw the opportunity Jim was able to take the fight to the ground. This style will be in stark comparison to Jim’s opponent, Nate Diaz. Just like his brother Nick, Nate is very much an aggressive predator in his approach to taking out his opponents.

Nate is very strong in his stand up & relentless in his approach. Although Diaz has immense BJJ skills & wouldn’t be intimidated if the fight were to move to his back, his track record with opponents who have good top games & great submission skills is not as outstanding as he would probably prefer. Clay Guida & Joe Stevenson both example Diaz’s lacking nature in his past opponents with that “ground & pound” mentality, like Miller. Nate will have the advantage of reach, which I’m sure will help in his defense against going to the floor.

I think this is a tough fight to call ahead of time; I mean, I wouldn’t wager anything this weekend. My gut says Nate, but only if it stays off the ground. As impressive as Diaz’s last two fights were, Miller has lost only 1 in his last 9! I think it’s a pretty fair playing ground, what do you think?

We’ll find out soon enough!

Check the Dom fight gear blog on Monday to discuss the results.

Well, have you heard that the UFC ‘bad boy’ will be back & competing in a BJJ superfight?

Nick Diaz hasn’t competed in a BJJ event in the past two years & has also never been submitted during his matches. Both men are highly skilled black belts & this match up is going to be great! Estima is currently training for his MMA debut, which will take place later this year.

Ironically, Estima was hired by George St. Pierre in 2011 to be his BJJ coach. (Too bad for Diaz it’s not a chance for him to actually face GSP.) Diaz received his black belt under the renowned Cesar Gracie in 2007 & Estima received his only 3 years prior in 2004. They are going to be a great pairing so seriously, you don’t want to miss this if you can help it! DOM Fight Gear will be there with our “perfect gi”, the DMX V, will you??

Jon Jones and Rashad Evans fought to a decision Saturday night at UFC 145 in Atlanta, GA.

This was definitely not the fight everyone wanted or hoped for, but at least you got your money’s worth.

Jon Jones’ size and reach just became too much for Rasad Evans, and he didn’t have a successful game plan to counter Jones’ attack. This allowed Jones’ to DOMinate the fight, and it was not much of a decision in the end.

I was quite entertained by all the fights, and I certainly did not expect Ben Rothwell to KO Brendan Schaub in the first round.

My favorite fight of the night had to be Mark Hominick vs. Eddie Yagin. I am not sure if I am just used to seeing guys bloodied up because it is Stanley Cup Season, but these guys went to war, and Mark Hominick made Eddie Yagin earn that split decision win.

I am glad this UFC event made me happy, because TUF and my cable provider have been irritating me the past few weeks. I will save that rant for later this week.

This is a championship fight as Jones is the current holder of the UFC Light-Heavyweight Belt.

There has certainly been a lot of talking about this fight, and both fighters have not been shy about showing their dislike for each other, but would you have it any other way?

Jon Jones will have a five-inch height advantage, and near 10-inch reach advantage, but Rashad Evans is not going to just lie down. With victories over Chuck Liddell, Quinton Jackson, and Tito Ortiz; Rashad Evans is a tested UFC veteran and is looking for his shot at the top again.

These two have fought before, but Jon Jones is certainly a different fighter now. Jon Jones will look to strike, and then turn to his ground and pound, but Rashad Evans is probably the best wrestler out of all of Jones’ opponents.

This a fight to look forward to and DOM Gear can’t wait to see it, and discuss with everyone on Monday.

Eric Prindle has had a tough road to get to his title fight! After his win over Sparks in late October 2011, Prindle was scheduled to face Thiago Santos. In the first round of their fight, Santos kicks Prindle in the groin; the fight is called, & ruled “No Contest.” A rematch between the 2 heavyweights is set for Bellator 61 & a week before the fight it is announced that due to illness, the bout has been pushed to the next card. At Bellator 62 weigh-ins Santos weighs in 12 lbs over, sending Prindle right back into his “holding pattern.” What should have been a fairly consistent competition schedule for “The American Solider” has turned in to a 7 month lay off between fights. This is a great fighter & addition to the Bellator Championships family & I’m glad he’s finally getting his chance to potentially earn the heavyweight title! Friday May 25th, live from New Orleans LA Eric Prindle will face off with current Bellator Heavyweight Champ, Cole Konrad. Their ages are just about the only physical difference to note, but their styles are what will keep things interesting. Prindle has an impressive amateur boxing record with past US Armed Forces tournaments while Konrad is a NCAA wrestling champ. It should be an exciting night for the Bellator tournament series, mark your calendars!
