UFC Veteran Jay Heiron prepares for the fight of his life this weekend when he faces former Olympian Ben Askren in Bellator 56.
On Saturday, October 29, Jay Heiron will face the toughest fight of his career at Bellator 56 in Kansas City, Mo. This fight will be the main event of the evening following a heavyweight war set to determine who will move forward on the heavyweight side of the tournament. Ben is hopefully preparing for the grittiest fight of his life and I hope Jay has been working on every form of wrestling known to man. (even WWE) if he plans on hanging with the wrestling ability of his counterpart.
Jay Heiron is the winner of the Bellator season 4 welterweight tournament and 100,000 dollars. Not that it should come as a big surprise after witnessing Jay become the last standing welterweight champion of the now defunct IFL, Heiron will feel right at home with that gold belt wrapped around his waist. This will not be the first big name Jay has fought, a few notables on his resume are Jake Ellenburger, Pat Healy, Joe “Diesel” Riggs, Brent Weedman, and Judo expert Rick Hawn. Jay now lives in Las Vegas and trains at Xtreme Couture under Randy Couture. Back in 2004 Jay fought George St. Pierre at UFC 48 and lost. His next fight is hoping to take a different direction when he fights Ben Askren to determine the Bellator welterweight champion.
The undisputed and reigning Bellator welterweight champion goes by the name of Ben Askren. Ben is a brown belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and holds an undefeated record of 8-0. In his wrestling days, Ben was out of control dominating anyone who stood in his way. He still holds the single season pin record for NCAA. Not only did he dominate the college wrestling circuit, he tried out for and made the USA Olympic Wrestling Team. Although Ben did not place at the Olympics, I’d say just getting there (not as a replacement) is a pretty big deal in itself. Askren is fighting Jay Heiron to determine the Bellator welterweight champion on Saturday and I have a feeling fans will not be disappointed.
I predict that Askrens’ wrestling will prove to be the dominating factor in this fight and surprise, surprise…….we have a decision on our hands. Askren Unanimous. BG
